Unveiling the Finest Supercars at RM Sotheby’s Exclusive Dubai Auction
In Dubai, supercars are more than just a mode of transport—they are a reflection of the city’s taste for luxury, innovation, and performance. Alongside a thriving vintage car community, there is a high demand for supercars that push the limits of speed and engineering.
In March 2024, RM Sotheby’s held its first-ever Dubai auction at Alserkal Avenue, a cultural hub known for its art and events. The event was a resounding success, showcasing a stunning array of vehicles and automotive memorabilia. The star of the sale was a 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss—an homage to the classic 300 SLR that won the 1955 Mille Miglia—which fetched over $3.2 million. Due to the event's success, RM Sotheby’s will host its second Dubai auction on the 1st of December, a peak time for events in the city. This year, the venue is the prestigious Emirates Golf Club, one of Dubai’s most esteemed sporting locations and the starting point for the UAE’s 1000 Miglia Experience. Here are some of the most notable supercars that will be on offer.
2022 Aston Martin Valkyrie Coupé
The Valkyrie is Aston Martin’s first street-legal hypercar, one of only 150 produced, and is designed with advanced aerospace technology under the codename ‘Nebula’. Finished in Lunar White with red and black accents, it was delivered in October 2022 after seven years of meticulous development. The car’s aerodynamics have been painstakingly refined to optimise airflow without compromising its aesthetics, achieving over 3.5 G around high-speed corners—more than three times that of a conventional racing car. The Valkyrie’s all-carbon fibre body is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 engine by Cosworth, coupled with a Rimac electric motor, delivering a staggering 1,160 horsepower. Notably, it also features the smallest, brightest rear brake light globally and a unique windshield wiper developed by the same supplier for the Space Shuttle programme. With only 109 kilometres on the odometer, this car is an unrivalled trophy for any serious collector.
2019 McLaren Senna LM
One of only 20 Senna LM models created, this car commemorates McLaren’s victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. The F1 GTR dominated the race to such an extent that McLaren commissioned road-legal versions, known as F1 LM. This special edition model, marking the race’s 25th anniversary, enhances the GTR’s twin-turbocharged V8 to 814 horsepower. Original supplier OZ Racing recreated the five-spoke wheels reminiscent of the F1 GTR, while the car’s Papaya Orange finish honours McLaren’s iconic XP1 prototype. Offered by its original owner, this is a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive history.
2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Coupé
The SLS AMG Black Series is AMG’s fifth Black Series model, inspired by the legendary 300 SL Gullwing. With only 350 produced, this example is unique, finished in Designo Mystic Blue—a colour so distinctive that other owners have repainted their cars to match. Its interior is a deep blue, complemented by carbon fibre accents, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a rear-view camera. Delivered to a German client in 2013, this car has only 326 kilometres on the odometer, making it a coveted piece for any supercar collection.
2018 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake
Built on Aston Martin’s VH platform, the second-generation Vanquish was reimagined in four designs by the legendary coachbuilder Zagato. The Shooting Brake model, in particular, is known for its extended passenger compartment, distinctive ‘Z’ designs, and sleek rear lights. Under the hood, it boasts a naturally aspirated V12 capable of producing 584 horsepower. This particular model, one of just 99 produced, is finished in Lava Red, the launch colour, and comes from a private South Korean collection. The car is a testament to both Aston Martin’s engineering and Zagato’s design excellence.
1966 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 by Touring
This vintage Lamborghini, one of the rarest at the auction, represents one of Lamborghini’s earliest ventures into the 2+2 seating model. Debuting at Geneva in 1966, it features a redesigned rear compartment, increased fuel capacity, and four headlights. The car’s five-speed gearbox was a technical advancement over previous models. Originally delivered in California, this classic passed through various collections before finding its current owner in 2022. The silver exterior and black interior are not original but add to its appeal. Some minor touch-ups and a mechanical inspection are advised, but this Lamborghini remains an exquisite choice for vintage car aficionados.
